Bioethics and environmental ethics are ‘border sciences’, i.e. experts of various fields of research (physicians, lawyers, sociologists, philosophers and theologians) are actively involved in them. That is the reason why the course Bioethics and Environment Ethics is announced in all faculties of the Péter Pázmány Catholic University. We believe that it is essential to provide appropriate and up-to-date information for students on specific moral and ethical issues related to their field of interest and the whole society and assume that they should also get acquainted with the standpoint of the Catholic Church.

The aim of the course is to initiate students into raising ethical questions, which paves the way for a responsible behaviour in various fields of science, primarily in those related to human life and environment. In the course we thoroughly examine the basic values of life, primarily human life and environment. The clash between the use of scientific achievements and the barriers of acceptability on ethical grounds is also included in the curriculum. We wish to find an answer to the question whether everything is acceptable that can be technically accomplished. We also conduct specialised ethical investigations with the help of representatives of various fields of science, primarily into current medical researches and procedures and environment-related issues.
